IRL the GIPN (because it's the police not the gendarmerie) wouldn't have took this many casuality, they are acting like newbie, they don't cover very well and show their back to the enemies, also it's seem that in the movie the 20to 30kg of protection they wear is penetrated by the bullets like butter

Hell, even a rocky planet could do so depending on the materials, mass of objects, and speed of the collision and subsequent chemical reaction. Would life exist on such a planet.
